Vilano R2 Commuter Review
The frame itself is traditional looking. It’s good looking with an attractive gloss black color. The glossy look goes well with a bike of this class.
It’s well built. The welds are neat and the shape is what you would usually expect.
The 6061-aluminum frame is light, which is important for ride ability. Being light in weight, you do not really have to struggle all that. This is especially true for roads that have steeper inclines.
It’s also durable making it the perfect choice for people who want a bike that will last along time.
The front rings have friction shift that takes some time to get use to. However, the innovation of STI shifting has been only recently introduced to the world of bikes.
It’s very easy to maintain and getting it professionally serviced is pretty easy too.
Shimano A050 thumb rear indexed 7-speed, front friction 3-speed translates to a total of 21 varying levels of speed. In other words, you get just the right speed that suits your terrain the best.
The speed shifters really let you stretch your effort.
Front and Rear Derailleur
The Shimano and Shimano Tourney Derailleur do not miss in gear changes. This is due to Shimano’s commitment to functionality, even on low-end bikes.
They look very much like the latest in cycling tech. The accuracy of the gears may even amaze you, considering the cost of this bike.
Shimano has taken pains to ensure a comfortable ride that is apparent from the smooth gear changes.
The R2 Commuter features Alloy caliper brakes. This means that the performance of the brakes is the best in its class performance. It is equally good whether it’ll be used for racing or for a long rally.
Also, it’s excellent for ordinary use in the streets as well. The quick braking power of the allow caliper brakes is excellent.
The brake levers of the bike are quite neutral and feel natural. However, some of you may need to adjust the height of the brake levers a little bit to your own personal preference.
Wheel Set & Tires
The 700c Doubled Walled CNC Alloy Machined Sides leave little to be desired. But some complained that the tires were not durable enough.
I personally found their shape to be unconventional but really nothing to complain about. They do their job well.
In fact, their nontraditional tubes vary in the profile and size. This results in some stiffness in areas that are highly stressed.
The R2 Commuter comes with a Quick Release Skewer, which works well. Overall the intended purpose of the wheel set and tires is served well.
The Vilano R2 Road Bike is light weight, due to the aluminum frame. Speed shifters take some getting use to, but there still kind of new to the market and they will be improved over the next couple of years.
The Shimano Front and Rear Derailleur give smooth gear changes, and the alloy caliper brakes give excellent performance, for a bike of this weight.
While some reviewer have complaints about the shape of the tires. There not a good enough reason to, not recommend this bike, when you consider its price.
On the whole, the Vilano R2 Commuter Aluminum Road Bike is a neatly balanced bike. The R2 Commuter Road Bike is something you should consider.
